2 Peter

The start of 2 Peter has some great scriptures about the importance of knowing Jesus. It is vital for a fruitful walk that we have as full a knowledge of Jesus as possible…..

Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:
Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.

It is knowledge of Jesus that will lead us to a fruitful life. Grace and peace grow as we grow in the knowledge of Him.

It is also of great importance that we know we have been purged from sin. Being sin conscious will not lead to holiness, as many preachers of the law tell us. Holiness will come through knowledge of Jesus; by having relationship with Him and by meditating on His Word.

The law is not for the righteous man, the law is for pointing sinners to Jesus.

I read 1 Timothy chapter 1 before going to church this morning and was so excited by what I read!

Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:
From which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling;
Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm.
But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully;
Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners………..

Paul is clearly telling us here that the law is not for the born again believer living under the New Covenant; “the law is not made for a righteous man”. He is telling us that the law has a purpose; it is for pointing out to ungodly people their need for a Saviour. The law is not for “bashing” believers to make them behave holy.

People will change their behaviour once they have a greater revelation of Jesus. They will not change if they are constantly made aware of their failings and failures.

Believers need to be reminded about Jesus not hit over the head with the law reminding them of their sin. We should be no more conscious of sin, we need to be Jesus and forgiveness and righteous conscious!

My Theology

I’ve just read a quote from a book which I think sums up my whole theology…

“Whatever your need is today, whether it is physical, emotional, mental, social, or financial, your solution is found in a greater revelation of Jesus”

AMEN to that!!

I’ve been told in the past that by preaching about grace I am a “one message preacher”.

Grace is the person of Jesus Christ….so my aim is to preach Jesus. I would love to think that I am a “one message preacher”.

The message of grace and the truth about Jesus is the only answer to all our problems!

I just cannot stop reading Hebrews 9 and 10….

These chapters are just coming alive for me at the moment. We are reading through Destined to Reign as a group and JP uses Hebrews 10 a lot! But I’m also reading the chapters at other times as well.

It tells us that Jesus died once.

It tells us that all our sins have been forgiven.

It tells us we can approach God boldly, with no concerns about guilt and condemnation.

This passage of scripture is all about FREEDOM.
