“Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus”

2 Timothy holds some marvelous truths about the Word of God; about it’s power and what it can achieve in our lives. We need to know and understand this Word; we need to hold fast sound words or in other words the truth.

Truth is always found in the Word. There is nothing in the Word but truth.

It is all inspired by God (2 Tim 3 v 16) and we must speak this truth at all times (2 Tim 4 v 2).

As part of our study last night we looked at the account in Luke of the prodigal son, or as I like to call it the prodigal’s father. The account Jesus gives us of the son returning home really gives us a superb description of the nature of God.

It tells us about His unconditional love and acceptance; how He accepts us whatever we have done or are doing. He loves us and accepts us irrespective of our performance; or can I say irrespective of our sin.

When the son returns he starts to explain things and say sorry (Luke 15 v 21) but the father stops him and just accepts him and shouts for a party! He doesn’t say “confess your sins and beg for forgiveness and then I’ll forgive you”. No, he has already forgiven him; he had forgiven his son before he arrived home. All the time the father was looking for the son he had forgiven him. When the son arrived home and the father fell on his neck and kissed him, he was doing these things out of his love and forgiveness.

What a beautiful picture of our Father God. He has forgiven us; we do not need to beg and grovel to Him for acceptance and forgiveness. We have these things already through the finished work of Jesus on the cross.

1 John 4 v 4

I had a great conversation with 2 fellow believers last night about new age and “spiritual” people. Some believers are “afraid” of people like this saying they are “of the enemy”.

They may well be, however they are of a defeated enemy. 1 John 4 v 4 says…..

“Ye are of God. little children, and have overcome them: because greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world”

Amen….we serve the Victor, we serve the Conqueror, we serve the Winner…..we have nothing to fear from the world or from the enemy. We have the Spirit of the Living God with us, indeed inside us.

Start living in victory and in the abundant life that Jesus won for you!

Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth.

This is a very important verse for any pastor and/or teacher. It tells us to remind people about the truths that they know again and again. Even if your flock know God’s truths, keep telling them. This verse tells me to keep going over the same truths from the Word many times to help believers renew their mind.

As a pastor I will not strive to come up with new and original messages and sermons; I will put people in remembrance of God’s truths that they already know!
